Role overview
Supermac's at Tuam Plaza is hiring an Assistant Deli Manager to support the Deli Manager in running the hot and cold deli operation and the fresh food service on site. The role is focused on maintaining strong standards across food quality, customer service, sales, cost control, profitability, and hygiene compliance.
Key responsibilities
You will help manage the deli so it consistently offers fresh, well-presented, high-quality food throughout the day. The position also involves supporting hiring, training, and cross-training of staff, while following company policies and operational standards.
- Maintain high presentation, freshness, and quality standards across all deli products.
- Support recruitment, induction, training, and cross-training of deli staff.
- Improve deli standards through better sourcing, merchandising, housekeeping, presentation, and service.
- Plan for changing customer demand, including seasonal trends and local activity.
- Manage promotions with proper cost analysis.
- Handle customer complaints appropriately and professionally.
- Ensure HACCP procedures are followed and documentation is kept up to date.
- Maintain strong customer service and encourage add-on sales where suitable.
- Help achieve food cost targets through portion control, waste reduction, and staff coaching.
- Support internal cleaning schedules to meet QSC standards.
- Assist with ordering from approved suppliers.
Financial responsibilities
- Help control overheads and reduce unnecessary costs.
- Support sales growth through active supervision of the deli area.
- Assist in protecting margins and improving profitability.
- Drive deli sales and support delivery of store sales targets.
People management
- Support recruitment, training, and development of quality deli team members.
- Keep training records current and ensure refresher training is completed when needed.
- Help monitor and improve team performance.
- Keep the deli team motivated and working to hygiene requirements.
- Assist with rostering to provide appropriate cover within labour targets.
Food safety and stock control
- Maintain effective HACCP control systems.
- Apply and manage fresh food policies and procedures correctly.
- Ensure deli operations comply with relevant food safety legislation.
- Stay current on HACCP, food safety, and hygiene requirements and share updates with management and staff.
- Help manage stock control, date checks, and stock rotation.
- Contribute to menu planning and product development.
- Ensure agreed menus are followed and planned properly.
- Keep stock management tight so out-of-date items are removed appropriately.
- Minimise waste and identify stock loss from damage, wastage, or leakage.
Other details
You may also be asked to carry out additional tasks assigned by the Deli Manager or Operations Site Manager. The work environment is fast-moving, continuous, and can be physically demanding at times. Success in the role depends on strong teamwork, clear communication, and the ability to keep procedures running smoothly.
