Assistant Buyer

Role Overview

An established retail and consumer packaged goods team in Mississauga is looking for a highly organized and detail-focused Assistant Buyer. This short-term opportunity runs through the end of November, with a possible extension. The role offers hands-on exposure in a busy merchandising environment, supporting category decisions, vendor coordination, and day-to-day buying operations.

The compensation for this assignment is $28 to $30 per hour, plus vacation pay, and pay is issued weekly.

Work Location and Schedule

• Based in Mississauga, Ontario, near Pearson Airport
• Work arrangement is on-site from Monday to Thursday, with remote work on Fridays
• Free parking is available, and a complimentary shuttle is provided from YYZ for UP Express commuters

Key Duties

• Review product performance data to spot growth opportunities and areas of risk
• Handle purchase order tasks such as creating orders, making updates, cancelling orders, and monitoring deliveries
• Serve as the connection point between buying teams and vendors to resolve concerns related to stock shortages, pricing mismatches, and new product introductions
• Examine daily and weekly reports and summarize important trends, issues, and insights
• Support merchandising work, including planogram creation and coordination for store setup
• Help plan product availability for store launches and promotional campaigns
• Work with vendors on item onboarding, sourcing support, and issue resolution
• Take on additional related tasks as needed

Candidate Profile

• Minimum 2 years of experience in a comparable role, ideally within retail or CPG
• Strong comfort with analysis and an eye for accuracy
• Clear communicator with solid relationship and stakeholder management skills
• Advanced Excel capability and experience using reporting tools
• Able to juggle several priorities in a fast-moving, deadline-focused setting
• Background in retail, merchandising, buying, or supply chain is considered an advantage
