Role overview
Higgins is hiring an Asphalt Plant Operator in Hamilton, Waikato. In this hands-on position, you will work with a small, collaborative team that produces asphalt mix for both company projects and outside customers. Your core focus will be running the plant and related equipment in a safe, productive, and efficient manner.

What the job involves
- Operating the asphalt plant and supporting equipment with attention to safety and efficiency
- Working around mobile plant, high-temperature processes, and hazardous materials in a controlled and safe way
- Contributing to the production of mix for internal and external clients
- Working as part of a compact team environment
- Following rostered day and night shifts as required
Experience and licence requirements
The role calls for at least 2 years of relevant experience. Prior exposure to fixed and mobile plant or machinery is preferred. A full Class 1 licence is essential. WTR and Class 2 licences are desirable, and support is available to help obtain them. Experience with bitumen handling and D & F endorsements would be an advantage, though it is not mandatory.
Skills and attributes
You will need strong verbal and written communication, basic computer literacy, and a firm commitment to health and safety.
Working conditions and employment details
This is a permanent full-time role, typically covering 40 to 60 hours per week. The pay is an hourly rate of $30 to $32. Higgins also offers a supportive environment, ongoing training, and long-term career development within the civil industry.
