Accountant

Role overview

Marguerite Casey Foundation is hiring a full-time Accountant to protect the integrity of its financial operations and help maintain accurate, compliant, audit-ready records. This position is remote within the United States, classified as non-exempt under the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act, and reports to the Director of Finance. The expected start date is 10/1/2026.

Key duties

• Handle accounts payable activity, including vendor bills, employee reimbursements, and corporate card transactions.
• Maintain strong internal controls and follow financial procedures consistently.
• Post month-end journal entries, process invoicing and receivables, and complete monthly reconciliations.
• Partner with colleagues across the organization, with close coordination alongside the Operations team.
• Build strong working knowledge of expense policies and support staff with finance-related questions.
• Prepare annual 1099 filings and help assemble materials for the annual audit and Form 990-PF.
• Contribute to policy revisions and support rollout of cross-functional workflows.
• Work on more complex accounting areas such as multi-state payroll rules and investment accounting.
• Take part in process mapping, change management, and the implementation of a new expense reporting system.

Candidate profile

The foundation is looking for someone with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and at least 3 years of accounting experience. Experience with private foundations or nonprofit accounting, along with related tax obligations, is especially valuable. Familiarity with accounting software is important, and 2 or more years with tools such as Sage Intacct is a plus. The role also calls for solid knowledge of GAAP, strong attention to detail, a service-minded approach, and the ability to work well both independently and as part of a team. Strong judgment, clear communication, discretion with sensitive information, and the ability to stay organized while working remotely across time zones are also important.

Working conditions

This role is open to candidates anywhere in the United States and may involve occasional travel, including at least two in-person staff retreats each year. Daily work is largely desk-based and computer-based, and the position may require lifting up to 15 lbs at a time.

Compensation

The annual salary range for this role is $118,000 to $130,000.
