Utility Worker

Role overview

This role focuses on keeping facilities clean, safe, organized, and operating smoothly. The Utility Worker handles a mix of janitorial support, general labor, light maintenance, material movement, equipment use, and setup tasks that help day-to-day operations run efficiently.

Core duties

• Carry out routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and removing trash.
• Keep restrooms, break areas, shared spaces, and work areas maintained to company cleanliness expectations.
• Help with floor maintenance work, including buffing, scrubbing, stripping, and waxing.
• Relocate furniture, equipment, supplies, and other materials as needed.
• Assist with arranging and taking down rooms for meetings, events, and special projects.
• Complete small maintenance jobs like replacing light bulbs, installing ceiling tiles, and flagging repair issues.
• Use cleaning equipment and tools in a safe and effective manner.
• Support stock control by tracking and replenishing cleaning products and consumables.
• Follow safety procedures, operational guidelines, and PPE requirements at all times.
• Respond promptly to spills, urgent facility requests, and special cleaning needs.
• Work cooperatively with supervisors, coworkers, and customers to deliver dependable service.
• Take on additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Applicants should ideally have a high school diploma or GED. Experience in custodial work, janitorial services, warehouse work, facilities support, or other general labor roles is preferred. Familiarity with commercial cleaning equipment is considered an advantage.

Physical demands

• Capability to use cleaning equipment and hand tools safely.
• Willingness to work across different indoor and outdoor settings as required.

Work environment and schedule

• Work may take place in commercial buildings, schools, healthcare settings, industrial facilities, or public venues.
• The role may involve exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, noise, and changing temperatures.
• Evening, overnight, weekend, or holiday shifts may be required based on business needs.
