About the opportunity
Aurecon is offering a paid 12-week summer internship for students who are interested in engineering consulting and want hands-on exposure to technical and advisory work. The programme is designed to give you practical experience on real projects, along with structured learning and direct guidance from specialists across the business.
This opportunity is open in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch for students studying Mechanical Engineering who are keen to build their skills and explore a consulting career.
Placement areas
You may be placed in one of two areas depending on your interests and the needs of the team:
- Energy & Industrial: work alongside teams supporting industrial sites, manufacturing operations, energy infrastructure, and process systems that keep industry running.
- Buildings: contribute to mechanical building services work for environments such as hospitals, airports, commercial developments, education facilities, and other spaces where people live, work, learn, and connect.

Support and development
The internship is structured to strengthen your technical ability, build confidence in a consulting environment, and help you understand different career routes. You will be supported by a team leader, a buddy, and an early careers team, and will also take part in the Intern Learning Series and Leadership Series.

What you need
- You should currently be studying Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline
- Being in your second-to-last year of study is preferred
- You need an interest in either industrial process and energy systems or mechanical building services and the built environment
- You must be available for 12 weeks of full-time work from mid-November 2026 to February 2027, including a two-week break over Christmas and New Year
- Strong communication skills, curiosity, and a collaborative approach are important
