Role overview

The Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand is looking for a Senior Project Manager in Wellington for a two-year fixed-term position. This is a strong opportunity to deepen your project leadership experience while guiding high-profile initiatives across the organisation.

The role sits within a major business transformation programme. This programme is aimed at helping the organisation operate as a modern, intelligence-led regulator. It will improve systems, processes, data, and working methods so the organisation can better manage risk, meet statutory obligations, and support a safe, efficient, and sustainable aviation system.

What you will do

  • Direct the planning and delivery of complex projects that cut across the organisation and support transformation goals.
  • Contribute strategic thinking and input to the development of business cases.
  • Track and control risks, issues, and changes throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Help shape project governance and support decision-making.
  • Present project updates and recommendations to the executive leadership team, the Board, and committees.
  • Support capability building by coaching and mentoring Workstream Leads, Project Managers, and Project Coordinators.
  • Oversee project close-out activities.

What we are looking for

The organisation is seeking an experienced project professional who can manage complex initiatives, build strong working relationships, and take a structured, forward-looking approach to delivery. Success in this role will depend on the ability to influence stakeholders, maintain momentum, and contribute meaningfully to a large-scale transformation environment.

About the employer

The Civil Aviation Authority is New Zealand’s aviation safety and security regulator. Its work helps protect the travelling public, support the aviation sector, and strengthen the country’s international standing.

The organisation’s guiding values are professionalism, respect, integrity, transparency, and collaboration. It also places importance on diversity, inclusion, and a workplace where people feel safe, valued, and able to contribute fully.
