The Role
An opening is available for a Planning & Inventory Control Engineer to join the industrial bakery team in Glenfield, Auckland (North Shore). Reporting to the Engineering Manager NZ, this position is central to organising, coordinating, and guiding engineering activities in New Zealand. The role centres on improving inventory control, strengthening operational performance, and supporting continuous improvement to drive business results and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with operations, purchasing, and materials management teams.
- Raise and manage work orders through the computerised maintenance management system (MEX).
- Keep equipment records and preventive maintenance schedules updated in MEX Plant Maintenance.
- Arrange and source materials, requisitions, and kits in line with established procedures.
- Prepare job cost estimates covering labour, materials, and total projected cost.
- Check that parts, materials, and tools are available before jobs are scheduled.
- Coordinate with engineers on planned maintenance and the ordering of components, consumables, equipment, and tools.
- Identify critical parts requirements and define safe stock levels within MEX.
- Maintain appropriate stock quantities and ensure MSDS documentation for lubricants and chemicals remains current.
- Improve preventive maintenance records with better detail and maintain well-organised spare parts storage.
- Provide assistance to engineering teams during breakdown events when required.
- Take part in plant planning, review activities, and problem-solving initiatives.
About You
The ideal candidate is organised, action-oriented, and comfortable being hands-on when the situation calls for it. This role suits someone who can manage priorities well, work accurately, and contribute to operational improvements.
Requirements
- A trade certificate in mechanical or electrical disciplines.
- At least 3 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing setting, preferably within FMCG or food production.
- Ability to interpret engineering schematic drawings.
- Strong fault-finding capability with mechanical and pneumatic equipment.
- Working knowledge of CMMS systems, preferably MEX, along with Microsoft Office skills.
- Strong commitment to safety.
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems and manage multiple priorities.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Experience with welding, electrical systems, pneumatics, steam, and gear reducers will be an advantage.
