Material Handler Coordinator / Inventory Management Specialist

Overview

This position is centered on keeping laboratory materials flowing smoothly across several lab sites. The coordinator will oversee replenishment, storage, movement, and accuracy of inventory while supporting day-to-day laboratory activity. The work involves specialist scientific products, controlled storage conditions, and close coordination with internal teams, customers, and external stakeholders.

What you will do

• Carry out daily stock counts and replenishment work across 24 laboratory areas with multiple storage points.
• Complete regular checks and cycle counts to keep inventory records accurate.
• Track stock position, quantities on hand, and inventory value in the system.
• Maintain proper rotation of items in consignment stores and laboratory point-of-use areas.
• Monitor inventory against agreed minimum and maximum stocking levels.
• Use inventory data and system tools to keep stock levels optimized.
• Support the running of onsite stores and inbound goods processing.
• Accept, inspect, and process incoming deliveries including solvents, chemicals, laboratory consumables, and specialist scientific products.
• Confirm deliveries match purchase orders and accompanying paperwork.
• Ensure all store requests are entered and completed through the inventory system.
• Check daily material needs for point-of-use laboratory locations.
• Prepare and carry out replenishment based on approved bills of materials and inventory manager direction.
• Pick, distribute, and restock items to the required levels so laboratory operations continue without interruption.
• Handle temperature-sensitive stock kept between -2°C and -70°C.
• Make sure cold-chain items are received, labeled, and moved immediately into the correct storage conditions.
• Follow all handling and storage rules for regulated materials.
• Coordinate the storage and replenishment of solvents, reagents, and other specialist lab products.
• Answer customer questions about stock availability, inventory levels, and product details.
• Help with new product setup and inventory onboarding for business growth activities.
• Review stocked products with customers to confirm they still meet operational needs.
• Stay informed about industry trends, emerging practices, and benchmark standards.
• Look for ways to improve processes and make inventory management more efficient.
• Follow site inventory procedures and quality standards.
• Keep accurate transaction records and reporting up to date.
• Support inventory audits and investigations when needed.
• Use inventory technology and reporting tools to monitor performance and usage trends.

Skills and experience

The role calls for hands-on inventory management or warehousing experience, ideally in a laboratory support setting. You should be comfortable using inventory systems, handling data entry and reporting, and applying stock control and replenishment methods with accuracy. Experience working with scientific products, chemicals, solvents, or consumables would be an advantage. A valid driving licence is required.

Communication and working style

Strong written and verbal communication skills are important, along with a customer-first approach and the ability to build productive working relationships. You should be able to work well across functions and within a matrix environment, respond quickly to operational issues, and stay organized while managing changing priorities.

Preferred background

Experience in laboratory, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or scientific research environments is preferred. Exposure to cold-chain inventory or other temperature-controlled products is also desirable, as is knowledge of inventory optimization and stock management best practices. Basic project management experience would be an added advantage.
