Kitchen Porter

Role overview

This position is a hands-on kitchen support role based in a hospital environment. The work focuses on maintaining cleanliness, helping with deliveries, and supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the kitchen while meeting hygiene and safety standards.

Key duties

• Receive incoming deliveries, place items away, and cross-check them against invoices to confirm the order is correct.
• Carry out kitchen cleaning tasks in line with hygiene rules and health and safety expectations.
• Wash kitchen equipment thoroughly and safely as required by H&S procedures.
• Clean floors every day, and more often when needed.
• Wash larger items and heavy equipment used by production teams.
• Use floor-cleaning machinery on a regular basis.
• Keep the kitchen area orderly, clean, and presentable at all times.
• Support the role with a limited amount of food preparation.
• Assist with a small amount of cooking when needed.

Requirements

• An up-to-date Food Hygiene certificate is required.
• Prior experience working in the NHS is preferred.
• Experience in a similar role would be an advantage.
• Must be comfortable with physically demanding tasks.
