Role summary

An Import Sea Operator is required for the OneTrack team in Auckland. The role is focused on keeping sea freight flowing smoothly by monitoring shipments, managing documentation, and serving as a reliable point of contact between shipping lines, customs brokers, and clients seeking timely cargo updates.

Key duties

• Monitor inbound sea freight from origin through to final delivery so that nothing is missed along the way.
• Handle the documents needed for compliant cargo movement, including bills of lading, customs declarations, and commercial invoices.
• Coordinate with customs brokers and regulators to ensure shipments remain compliant with applicable requirements.
• Maintain systems and records with a high degree of accuracy and timeliness.
• Provide clients with clear updates on shipment status, delays, and delivery windows.
• Identify and resolve issues early before they affect operations.
• Confirm vessel schedules and cargo availability with shipping lines and forwarders.
• Prepare reports and performance metrics that give management useful operational insight.
• Continuously look for more efficient ways to manage import workflows rather than relying on legacy practices.

Required background and capabilities

The ideal candidate brings at least 2 years of professional experience in sea freight import operations or logistics coordination. Practical experience using logistics management systems and software is important, along with solid knowledge of import processes, customs rules, and documentation standards.

Strong organisation and time management are needed to handle multiple shipments at once. The role also demands excellent accuracy in data entry and record keeping, plus clear written and verbal communication for working with clients and stakeholders.

An analytical approach is required to spot operational issues and work through them effectively. Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools such as Excel, Word, and Outlook is expected. Experience with CargoWise or similar logistics platforms is preferred, as is familiarity with New Zealand customs processes and import regulations.
