Role Overview
This full-time permanent House Parent position is based at May House in Saskatoon, SK, with the workplace location listed as Martensville, Saskatchewan, Canada. The role is suited to someone who wants to make a meaningful impact in the lives of young people by helping create a stable, caring, and secure group living environment. The home supports individuals with complex needs, including behavioural challenges, developmental disabilities, and mental health concerns.
The role combines caregiving, household management, meal planning, budgeting, documentation, and team support. A strong focus is placed on maintaining a clean and welcoming home, preparing nutritious food, and modelling supportive, respectful interactions.
Education and Experience
A high school diploma is required. Senior matriculation with added coursework in food handling, cooking, or communication would be considered an advantage. The role calls for at least one year of experience cooking for large groups, such as in a family-style setting. Experience supporting children, youth, or adults with behavioural, cognitive, developmental, or mental health challenges is also preferred.
Skills and Personal Qualities
The ideal candidate will bring strong cooking and baking ability, familiarity with the Canada Food Guide, and the capacity to design meal plans for specialized dietary needs. Comfort with budgeting, household upkeep, organization, and independent as well as team-based work is important. The position also requires strong relationship-building skills, empathy, patience, emotional awareness, clear communication, inclusiveness, and a willingness to keep learning. Basic computer skills are also needed.
Key Duties
You will prepare monthly meal plans, cook nutritious home-style meals, snacks, and baked items, and help with both routine and special meals when required. The job includes maintaining high housekeeping standards, supporting individuals with complex needs, and teaching practical life skills such as self-care, cooking, cleaning, budgeting, and positive social interaction. You will also complete reports and other documentation accurately and on time.
Additional responsibilities include supporting morning routines, assisting the unit manager and team with direction and feedback, reflecting agency values in daily conduct, and helping with housekeeping, seasonal decorating, and food preparation. Resource management is another important part of the job: you will manage and reconcile monthly food and supply budgets, submit receipts, track approved spending, maintain vehicle logs when agency vehicles are used, buy nutritious non-prepared food items within budget, and restock household and hygiene supplies. Safety practices, agency procedures, and government requirements must be followed at all times.

Requirements
- High school diploma.

- Completion of all mandatory training required by agency policy.
- Valid Class 5 Novice 2 licence or higher.
- Eligibility to be covered under the employer’s commercial auto insurance policy.

Compensation
The pay range is $20.47 to $26.48 per hour.
