General Aide

Job purpose

This role exists to provide practical support to patients and healthcare teams, improving patient movement and service flow across departments. In outpatient clinics, the general aide mainly supports patients through chaperoning and other assistance tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Move or escort stable patients who are able to walk, as well as wheelchair users, with or without an escort, according to direction from the Nursing Unit Manager or Charge Nurse.
• Help transfer patients who are unwell or medically unstable on beds or wheelchairs between wards, departments, and units, with a nurse or physician accompanying them when needed.
• Assist in shifting dependent patients between beds, wheelchairs, and stretchers.
• Support the handling and movement of medical equipment used during patient transfers across floors and units.
• Carry specimens, medicines, blood, equipment, documents, mail, reports, and medical records between wards and units when required.
• Collect supplies and materials from storage locations and deliver them to the relevant floors and units.
• Support discharge procedures and escort discharged patients to their vehicles in wheelchairs.
• Provide patients with basic guidance related to infection prevention and fall prevention.
• Follow isolation instructions issued by the Unit Manager in line with infection prevention procedures.
• Take part in environmental inspections and safety rounds, and report any safety non-compliance to the Unit Manager or Charge Nurse.
• Check empty rooms for admission readiness using the room readiness checklist and escalate maintenance concerns or issues to the Unit Manager or Charge Nurse.
• Stay neat and professional at the station, respond to call bells, and relay patient requests to the Charge Nurse.
• Remain within the assigned unit or service area unless performing job duties or given permission by the person in charge.
• In outpatient clinics, help streamline patient flow for physicians in the assigned clinic.
• Serve as a chaperone in clinic areas and guide patients to the appropriate areas within the healthcare facility as needed.
• Assist with moving dependent patients to and from examination beds, wheelchairs, or stretchers.
• Support portering tasks within the outpatient department when needed.
• Help with patient measurements such as height and weight, within competency limits.
• Maintain a positive and proactive attitude while handling work challenges.
• Carry out all duties in support of person-centered care values.
• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts within the scope of the role.
• Follow safety procedures and raise job-related safety concerns promptly.
• Protect the confidentiality of sensitive information encountered during work.
• Comply with cybersecurity rules and standards, and take part in awareness training and activities that help prevent cyber threats.
• Follow the organization’s code of conduct, policies, and ethical standards.
• Complete any mandatory education at least one month before it expires.

Requirements

• Physical stamina is essential, as the role involves being on your feet for most of the day, along with walking, lifting, and pushing beds, wheelchairs, stretchers, and equipment.
• Prior experience in a healthcare environment or another support-focused role is preferred.
• A high school education is required.
• Ability to understand and follow spoken and written English instructions is required.
• Arabic-speaking ability is an advantage.
• No licenses or certifications are required for this position.

Additional information

This is a full-time onsite position based in Jiddah, Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

The role involves direct support to patients in outpatient and inpatient settings, including chaperoning, portering, discharge support, and assistance with routine facility operations.
