Electrical Shift Technician

Role overview

This permanent electrical shift technician position is based in Clondalkin, Dublin, with an annual package of €93K all in. The role follows a rotating shift pattern made up of four blocks of four 12.25-hour day shifts, each separated by four rest days, followed by four blocks of four 12.25-hour night shifts, again with four rest days between each block, and then the cycle repeats.

The technician will be trained across a broad range of site systems and maintenance approaches, including predictive maintenance, CMMS use through Pemac, reliability methods, HV and LV distribution, turbines, boilers, compressors, diesel generators, and pumps. In addition to normal shift duties, the role may also involve supporting the site during urgent situations outside standard working hours.

Key duties

Day-to-day work will include coordinating activities with the on-site shift team, especially during morning handovers, and acting as the main point of contact for external service providers. The role also involves investigating faults in utility plant and equipment, carrying out root cause analysis, and supporting the recording and review of deviations for compliance and quality purposes.

Planned, predictive, and corrective maintenance will form a major part of the job, along with making sure scheduled maintenance is completed on time. The technician is expected to work confidently with CMMS platforms, contribute to the creation of preventive maintenance plans, job plans, and SOPs, and work with the site planner to confirm spare-part needs.

Further responsibilities include reviewing maintenance programmes to keep uptime at an optimal level, following all safety procedures, and applying knowledge of HV/LV distribution, electrical generation turbines, diesel generators, boilers, fuel oil storage and distribution systems, and industrial gas installations. The role also requires sound judgement when deciding whether plant equipment should be taken offline, who needs to be informed, and what steps are needed to restore operations or switch to backup systems.

The technician will provide leadership and mentoring to colleagues so they can improve their ability to resolve complex plant deviations and failures. Support is also needed for the Site Engineer and HV Engineer in root cause investigations, planning and carrying out complex utility isolations for maintenance, project, and client work, and helping with capital improvement projects, including commissioning and handover from project teams to operations.

Continuous improvement is another important part of the position, including identifying and implementing approved improvements that strengthen plant efficiency and working practices. A commitment to broadening understanding of complex mechanical systems is also expected.

Requirements

The employer is looking for a craft-qualified electrician with previous relevant experience, ideally gained in an energy centre environment. A strong analytical approach is essential, and experience with Six Sigma or Lean methods is preferred.

This is a permanent full-time shift role. The working pattern consists of four consecutive 12.25-hour day shifts, four rest days, four consecutive 12.25-hour night shifts, four rest days, and then the cycle repeats. The position may require emergency support outside normal working hours when needed.
