Role overview

ODS Engineering designs, builds, and installs modular EPOD solutions for the data centre market. As an Electrical Estimator, you will prepare precise and commercially competitive costings for the electrical element of EPOD projects, starting from the first tender enquiry and carrying through to final submission.

This position connects technical engineering work with commercial decision-making. You will convert electrical drawings, specifications, and design information into reliable estimates that support margin protection while helping ODS remain competitive in tenders for hyperscale and data centre clients.

Estimating and tender preparation

Develop detailed electrical cost estimates for EPOD projects, covering materials, labour, subcontracted work, and installation activity.
Study tender packs, drawings, and specifications to understand the full scope and identify any missing information, unclear points, or commercial/technical risks before pricing.
Complete take-offs from electrical schematics and single-line drawings, including LV switchgear, busbar, distribution, cabling, containment, and panels.
Obtain and compare quotations from suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring the pricing is directly comparable and commercially strong.
Construct labour and installation pricing using standard productivity rates together with project-specific assumptions.
Compile structured tender returns and pricing schedules so they are ready within client deadlines.

Technical and commercial coordination

Work closely with the Design and Engineering teams to resolve scope, specification, and technical questions during the estimating process.
Partner with the Commercial Manager to assess and price risks, exclusions, and assumptions.
Support value engineering reviews by identifying alternative solutions or suppliers that preserve quality while improving cost position.
Contribute electrical pricing input to overall EPOD project bids alongside mechanical, structural, and installation estimators.
Attend pre-tender and clarification discussions with clients, consultants, or main contractors when needed.

Supplier and subcontractor management

Build and maintain productive relationships with electrical suppliers and specialist subcontractors.
Issue enquiries and chase outstanding quotations to keep tender programmes on track.
Share feedback on approved suppliers and identify potential new suppliers that may be suitable for onboarding.

Handover and continuous improvement

Provide the Project Management team with a clear handover of estimate build-ups, pricing logic, and assumptions after contract award.
Measure estimate performance against actual project costs and use the learning to improve future pricing.
Contribute to the upkeep and development of ODS’s cost database, pricing templates, and standard rates used for repeat EPOD configurations.

Candidate profile

We are seeking someone with 3 to 6 years of experience in electrical estimating, ideally gained in electrical contracting, panel building, modular construction, or data centre / critical infrastructure environments. You should be confident reading electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, and specifications, and have a strong grasp of LV systems, distribution, switchgear, cabling, and containment.

Experience with detailed take-offs and cost build-ups is essential, along with excellent numerical ability, analytical thinking, and a sharp eye for detail. Strong Microsoft Excel skills are required, and familiarity with estimating software is an advantage. You should also be comfortable adapting quickly to ODS systems if needed.

Good communication is important in this role, as you will liaise with suppliers, engineers, and clients. You should also be capable of handling several tenders at once while working accurately to demanding deadlines.
