Contracts Engineer (Contracting)

Role overview

An experienced Contracts Engineer is required to manage the contractual and commercial side of projects from start to finish. This position sits within the Commercial / Contracts function and is based in Dubai, UAE, with a focus on building construction and contracting work.

The successful candidate will take ownership of contract administration, claims handling, variation assessment, subcontract matters, and risk control, while helping safeguard the company’s commercial position throughout the project lifecycle.

This role calls for strong working knowledge of FIDIC conditions, UAE construction practices, contract law concepts, and commercial management in the construction sector.

Key responsibilities

• Examine tender packs and contractual documents, and manage the drafting, review, and administration of construction contracts.
• Ensure all contractual obligations are being followed and keep contract files, records, and correspondence properly organised.
• Interpret contract terms and provide practical guidance to project teams.
• Assess variations and change orders, prepare commercial evaluations, and monitor project commercial performance.
• Support cost control, forecasting, commercial reporting, and budget review from a contractual standpoint.
• Prepare subcontract agreements, review subcontractor quotations, and oversee subcontractual obligations.
• Review subcontractor claims and variations, and coordinate payment certification with the commercial team.
• Prepare Extension of Time submissions, delay and disruption claims, and contractual notices.
• Evaluate claims raised by both contractors and subcontractors, and coordinate delay analysis with planning teams.
• Handle contractual communication with clients and consultants, attend commercial meetings, and support professional dispute resolution and negotiations.
• Maintain a complete set of contract records, track variations, claims, notices, and EOT submissions, and produce monthly contractual reports.
• Support document control requirements and project close-out documentation.
• Identify contractual risks, suggest mitigation measures, advise management on exposure, and help prevent disputes.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
• 5 to 10 years of experience in contracts engineering.
• Prior contracting experience in the UAE is strongly preferred.
• Solid understanding of FIDIC Conditions of Contract, variation management, claims preparation, Extension of Time procedures, and contract administration.
• Background in building construction projects.
• Strong drafting and negotiation ability.
• Good commercial judgment and awareness.
• Comfortable using MS Office.
