Key responsibilities

• Carry out scheduled quality checks for fruit, vegetable, and meat items at stores, distribution centers, and supplier locations.
• Confirm that products meet internal specifications, food safety expectations, and relevant regulatory requirements.
• Assess freshness, visual quality, colour, texture, ripeness, packaging condition, temperature, and remaining shelf life.
• Use standard inspection methods and checklists to perform sampling and evaluation activities.
• Track product handling, storage practices, hygiene conditions, and cold chain compliance.
• Spot defects, non-compliance, spoilage, contamination risks, and other quality issues, then document them clearly.
• Work with operations teams, suppliers, and store staff to drive corrective and preventive actions.
• Assist with rejection decisions and escalation steps when quality standards are not achieved.
• Keep inspection logs, reports, and quality records accurate and up to date.
• Contribute to supplier performance reviews and quality improvement efforts.
• Help ensure adherence to HACCP, food safety rules, and internal quality procedures.
• Support investigations into customer complaints and product quality incidents.
• Develop productive working relationships with store teams, suppliers, and management.

Qualifications and requirements

• A bachelor’s degree or diploma in Food Science, Agriculture, Food Technology, Quality Assurance, or a similar discipline.
• Prior exposure to quality assurance, fresh produce handling, meat inspection, or food retail operations is an advantage.
• Working knowledge of fresh produce quality criteria, meat handling practices, and food safety standards.
• Familiarity with HACCP, GMP, and related food safety frameworks.
• Strong eye for detail and good analytical ability.
• Clear communication and reporting skills.
• Comfort working in a fast-moving operational setting.
