Role overview
Ward 4 is seeking a compassionate, driven nurse to become part of its team. The ward is an acute oncology setting focused on patients with altered airways and operates within one of Europe’s leading cancer centres. The team is committed to delivering highly advanced cancer treatment and consistently excellent patient care through a strong collaborative approach.
The ward has 25 beds, made up of open bays and side rooms, and looks after a wide mix of disease groups. This gives staff exposure to a broad range of oncology cases and helps build strong specialist knowledge and experience. Patients are supported across diagnostic, inpatient and treatment pathways. In addition to altered airway care, the ward administers chemotherapy regimens, supports patients through treatment-related symptoms and side effects, and provides palliative and end-of-life care.
What the role involves
As a Staff Nurse on Ward 4, you will support patients’ medical, physical and emotional needs while maintaining clear and respectful communication with patients and their families.
- Care for patients who are acutely unwell.
- Deliver specialist nursing interventions within oncology.
- Identify any decline in a patient’s condition at an early stage.
- Take part in specialist development, including standardised chemotherapy training such as UKONs.
- Provide palliative and end-of-life care.
- Educate patients about their condition and treatment.
- Work closely with the multidisciplinary team and advocate for patients.
- Communicate effectively with patients and relatives.
- Maintain clear and accurate clinical records.
- Contribute positively as a proactive team member.
- Stay current with guidance and apply evidence-based nursing practice.
Induction and support
To help you settle into the post, the ward provides an 8-week supernumerary period. During this time, you will receive close support from a clinical practice facilitator and have a designated sister/charge nurse available for extra guidance. This is designed to help you build the knowledge and confidence needed to deliver outstanding patient care.
