Role overview
This FBI special agent opening is exempt from the federal civilian hiring freeze. The role is suited to professionals who can apply strong analysis, attention to detail, and sound judgment to matters that affect national security and public safety. In this position, you would help investigate violent crime, cyber threats, terrorism, fraud, and other emerging risks by turning complex information into actionable leads.
The Bureau emphasizes adaptability, resilience, and continuous growth. This role offers the chance to bring a background in education or teaching into federal law enforcement, where your experience with structured thinking, working with children, tutoring, early childhood education, Adobe Photoshop, machine learning, and leadership development can be used in a new way. The work is designed to expand your expertise while supporting professional development, compensation, benefits, and flexibility.
How your education and teaching experience fits
Your academic and teaching background can translate into the ability to spot patterns, interpret information carefully, and respond thoughtfully in complex situations. The skills you have developed in your field can help you evaluate evidence, connect details, and contribute to investigative decisions.
Major duties
- Lead and support investigations into possible violations of federal law, cybersecurity incidents, and matters affecting public safety.
- Use sound judgment, flexibility, and initiative when responding to investigative needs.
- Build and sustain working relationships with law enforcement partners at the federal, state, local, tribal, territorial, and international levels.
- Maintain the physical readiness needed to carry out law enforcement responsibilities.
Application process
Applicants are instructed to submit interest through the FBIJobs Careers website by starting the application, signing in or registering if needed, and completing every part of the form. All required documents must be attached for the submission to go through. A resume is required and should include relevant experience with start and end dates; it must not exceed two pages. Supporting documents may include college transcripts when education is used to qualify or when a positive education requirement applies. Veterans may need to provide a DD 214, while disabled veterans may need a DD 214, SF-15, and a VA letter dated 1991 or later.

Education
A bachelor’s degree or higher is required, preferably in education or a closely related discipline, from a U.S.-accredited college or university. All degrees must be confirmed with official transcripts.
