Research Collaborator

Overview

This is a paid research collaboration opportunity centered on medical artificial intelligence. The work is being done in connection with Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York, and focuses on using machine learning to help detect Oral Potentially Malignant Diseases (OPMD) from medical images.

The role is intended for a PhD student with a Computer Science background and solid machine learning experience who can contribute to an academic research project. Compensation is described as being in the range of a few thousand dollars. There is also potential for co-authorship on a research paper and future work in medical AI.

Project Scope

A curated medical image dataset has already been prepared. The main objective is to evaluate how effectively machine learning models can identify OPMD from this data.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The preferred applicant is a PhD student in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a closely related area, with strong hands-on machine learning skills. Familiarity with medical imaging, convolutional neural networks, transformers, and classification approaches would be an advantage. An interest in collaborative research that connects medicine and AI is also important.
