Role overview
The Government of Yukon is hiring a Project Biologist focused on biodiversity to support the Department of Environment’s work through project development, coordination, and delivery. This is a permanent 0.8 FTE role, equivalent to 60 hours every two weeks, with a planned start date of October 1, 2026.
About the department
The Department of Environment works to support a healthy, sustainable, and thriving Yukon by protecting air, land, water, and wildlife. The team also strengthens governance by building relationships with Yukon First Nation and transboundary Indigenous partners and by using both scientific evidence and traditional knowledge in decision-making.
What you will do
- Plan, coordinate, and deliver biodiversity-related projects within the department.
- Contribute to wildlife-focused studies, surveys, and field work.
- Support data analysis and reporting for project and program work.
- Work with laboratory teams to coordinate wildlife sample collection.
- Help source, track, and maintain scientific equipment and supplies.
Qualifications

- A university degree in wildlife biology, ecology, zoology, or a closely related field.
- Extensive experience with advanced data analysis using GIS and R.
- Strong experience producing reports, including peer-reviewed reports or publications.
- Experience coordinating wildlife field projects that use non-invasive and capture-mark-recapture methods.
- Experience coordinating wildlife sample collection in a laboratory setting.
- Experience purchasing and maintaining scientific and related equipment and supplies.
Skills and suitability
- Strong understanding of Yukon wildlife.
- Ability to design and carry out wildlife studies or surveys.
- Skill in interpreting scientific findings and presenting them clearly in writing.
- Ability to juggle shifting priorities and solve problems effectively.
- Well-developed project management capability.
- Ability to build and maintain working relationships inside and outside government.
- Comfort working collaboratively with others and also independently with minimal supervision.
