About the Organization
Houston-Galveston Area Council is a major regional planning body serving 13 counties and a community of over 7 million residents. The organization helps address cross-county and cross-city needs every day, supporting transportation, senior safety, job access, disaster recovery, water quality, and broader regional well-being.
Role Overview
In this role, you will support the Gulf Coast Workforce Board and H-GAC’s Human Services Department by helping expand workforce learning and training services across the region. The position focuses on strengthening professional development opportunities for child care providers and early learning professionals, especially those involved in the Texas Rising Star program.
Key Duties
You will design and deliver professional development training, coordinate sessions, track participation and quality, and help maintain strong communication with training partners, service providers, and stakeholders. The role also includes preparing reports, creating outreach materials, and supporting compliance with Workforce Solutions requirements and applicable laws and regulations.
Training and Coordination
- Create strong, relevant training sessions for early learning providers participating in Texas Rising Star.
- Lead engaging learning sessions that use hands-on and adult-learning approaches.
- Partner with outside trainers and organizations to deliver effective training.
- Build and maintain a system to track training, attendance, and quality assurance for each session.
- Plan and monitor child care provider professional development activities in line with Workforce Solutions expectations.
Communication and Reporting
- Work with internal staff to prepare flyers and other informational materials for stakeholders.
- Develop and review reports for service providers as well as local, state, and federal agencies.
- Act as a communication link between service providers and review related materials and messages.
- Support additional program and Workforce Solutions assignments as needed.
Compliance and Program Support
- Help ensure services are delivered according to Workforce Board direction.
- Make sure program activities follow federal, state, and local requirements.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate brings excellent relationship-building and communication skills, can work independently with minimal oversight, and is comfortable analyzing information and presenting practical strategies that lead to strong outcomes. You should also be able to work effectively in a busy, fast-moving environment and be proficient with Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and data management tools.
Required Education and Experience
A bachelor’s degree in a relevant academic area is required, along with at least 3 years of experience in local government, nonprofit programs, schools, or directly related work.
Preferred Background
Preference may be given to candidates with a bachelor’s degree in early education or a closely related discipline, experience supporting or delivering staff professional development, and familiarity with the Texas Early Childhood Professional Development System (TECPDS).
Residency Requirement
All H-GAC employees must live within the agency’s service region.
