Compensation and Benefits

• This role starts at CAD 25.75 per hour, with overtime payable after 44 hours.

Role Summary

The Picker will be responsible for sorting and inspecting metal materials to support recycling operations. The role requires careful handling of different metal types, removal of unwanted items and contaminants, and adherence to quality, safety, and environmental standards.

Key Duties

• Check and classify metal items such as aluminium, copper, steel, and alloys according to the required standards.
• Remove contaminants, non-recyclable waste, and hazardous materials from the metal flow to maintain product quality.
• Place different metal categories into the correct bins or collection areas using proper sorting methods.
• Follow all safety procedures, including the correct use of PPE, to help maintain a safe workplace for everyone.
• Keep the sorting area, bins, and surrounding workspace clean, organized, and efficient.
• Work closely with team members, supervisors, and other departments to support smooth operations and address concerns.
• Look for ways to improve processes, increase efficiency, and reduce waste, then share practical suggestions.
• Comply with environmental rules and internal policies related to metal handling, sorting, and disposal.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate has some exposure to a recycling plant or a similar environment, though this is preferred rather than mandatory. Familiarity with different metal types and their characteristics is an advantage. The person should be able to identify and sort materials quickly and accurately using visual cues and instructions.

The job also calls for physical stamina, as it includes repetitive movements, bending, lifting, and standing for long periods. Strong attention to detail, a dependable work style, punctuality, and a solid work ethic are important. The candidate should be comfortable working independently with limited supervision and also contributing effectively in a team setting. Willingness to follow safety rules, wear the required PPE, and take part in safety training is essential.
