This full-time, hourly Manager in Training position is based in Ozark, Alabama at Martindale Plaza. The role sits within Operations, reports to the Store Manager, and is classified as non-exempt. The pay rate listed for this opening is $10.35 per hour.
The Manager in Training supports the Store Manager with store-wide operations and day-to-day administrative work. This person is expected to know the merchandise across all store departments, help choose the right approach to meet store goals, and consistently follow company standards, procedures, and visual presentation guidelines. The role also involves actively promoting sales and promotions, representing the brand well, and delivering a strong customer experience that helps build loyalty.
In the Store Manager’s absence, the Manager in Training takes charge of supervisory duties and is trained to perform Store Manager responsibilities.
Key duties
The role includes overseeing store assets, helping build action plans for selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, and scheduling, and ensuring each department completes its assigned work. It also involves tracking inventory movement, sales results, and expenses to support profitability, while keeping the Store Manager updated on customer trends and operational changes.
Customer service is a major part of the job. The Manager in Training is expected to greet shoppers, assist multiple customers during busy times, support service standards, and promote Hibbett I City Gear products and services. The position also includes administrative support and maintaining company controls that protect assets and financial information, including flagging possible fraud risks to management when needed.
Supervisory scope
When the Store Manager is unavailable, this employee supervises the team in line with company policy and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, training, assigning work, directing day-to-day tasks, and helping resolve issues.
Required background
Applicants should have experience in a retail setting, ideally in footwear or athletic apparel. A background of 1 to 3 years in customer service is preferred. The role also calls for strong people skills, clear communication, comfort in a fast-moving environment, and the ability to manage several tasks accurately at once.
