Project Overview

This role is for an experienced illustrator who can help transform a heartfelt children’s picture book into vivid, cinematic artwork. The assignment includes 26 full-color interior illustrations plus a cover, all to be created in an 8.5” x 8.5” format. The visual direction calls for a warm, emotionally resonant, and refined look, with realistic proportions, soft cinematic lighting, and a style that feels engaging for both children and their families.

The illustrator will be provided with character sheets, scene-by-scene guidance, and reference material to support consistency and strong storytelling across the entire book. The engagement starts with a paid test illustration to confirm style match and overall fit.

Responsibilities

Create 26 full-color interior illustrations and a cover with a cinematic, painterly children’s-book aesthetic.
Maintain consistent character design and clear emotional storytelling throughout the sequence of artwork.
Work from supplied character sheets, scene notes, and visual references to keep the book visually coherent.
Prepare artwork in the required 8.5” x 8.5” print-ready format.
Complete a paid sample illustration during the selection stage.
Revise artwork based on feedback, within the agreed project terms.
Ensure every illustration is fully original and not produced using AI.

Requirements

Demonstrated experience illustrating children’s books or comparable work with a cinematic, realistic, painterly finish.
A portfolio that shows emotional storytelling, strong character continuity, and polished execution.
Comfort using digital illustration tools and techniques suitable for high-quality print delivery.
Ability to understand detailed creative briefs and translate them into visual scenes accurately.
Strong communication skills and a responsive approach to feedback.
Commitment to producing original artwork without AI generation.
Availability to work within the project timeline and revision plan.
