Overview

Frederic Schad is hiring an experienced Customs Clerk in Kingston, Jamaica. This role is focused on customs processing, shipment coordination, documentation, and compliance. Only candidates with relevant experience will be considered.

Key duties

  • Check tariff classifications in customs records and verify them against the applicable customs requirements.
  • Keep the internal clearance tracker current and accurate.
  • Ensure that customs and local regulations are followed before, during, and after the clearance process.
  • Work closely with airline, shipping line, supplier, and contractor contacts to keep shipments moving smoothly and in line with operating procedures and customer expectations.
  • Prepare customs paperwork and upload it to the web server.
  • Arrange payment requests for duties and other applicable taxes through the finance team.
  • Prepare and file all shipment manifests.
  • Track shipment movement and update internal systems such as the operations log and CargoWise according to company rules.
  • Follow up with shipping companies regarding arrival notices.
  • Handle export document submission.
  • Coordinate with customs brokers to obtain the latest status on shipments in clearance.
  • Support physical shipment dispatch when needed.
  • Arrange customer deliveries in line with standard procedures and customer-specific requirements.
  • Apply for customs permits where required.
  • Review and verify invoices submitted by customers.
  • Assist with Delivery Orders in the Port Community System (PCS).
  • Identify and report non-conformities to help improve processes in your area.
  • Prepare import and export customs declarations.
  • Confirm tariff classifications with Jamaica Customs.
  • Use a strong working knowledge of customs laws, procedures, and regulations.
  • Carry out other operational tasks related to the role.

Requirements

  • At least a bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Comfortable using MS Office.
  • Basic understanding of AFR and OFR operations, including handling, documentation, and customs clearance.
