Role overview
PwC New Zealand is seeking a Director-level Test Director to lead quality assurance and testing across multiple clients. The role is focused on creating a strong end-to-end testing approach so that solutions are dependable, suitable for use, and prepared for production.
You will work closely with the testing partner, Solution Lead, and Delivery Lead to keep testing coordinated across platforms and delivery streams. A key part of the role is building confidence in the solution by identifying defects, risks, and quality concerns early and managing them through to go-live.
Key responsibilities
- Take ownership of the overall test strategy across platforms, ensuring it aligns with internal standards and clearly defines scope and success measures.
- Lead integrated planning and execution for testing phases including SIT, UAT, BPT, and non-functional testing, all tied to delivery milestones.
- Set and maintain quality controls, track coverage and defects, and manage entry and exit criteria across teams.
- Drive defect triage, prioritisation, monitoring, and resolution while reducing broader delivery risks.
- Make sure testing environments and test data are appropriate, secure, and accessible when needed.
- Evaluate release readiness, oversee quality gates, and provide guidance on go-live risk.
- Serve as a trusted testing authority to senior stakeholders, sharing progress, issues, and risk updates clearly.
Skills and experience
The role suits someone with senior test leadership experience on large transformation programmes and a proven record of delivering end-to-end testing in complex, multi-platform settings, including legacy integration.
Experience in government or other regulated environments is preferred. Strong capability in test strategy, planning, and full lifecycle delivery is essential, along with deep knowledge of non-functional testing such as performance, security, and resilience.
You should also bring practical understanding of test automation and modern QA practices, experience leading large SIT and UAT efforts, and the ability to guide distributed teams and vendor ecosystems. A risk-aware, detail-focused mindset and the confidence to communicate with senior stakeholders are important.
