Role overview

This position offers the chance to contribute to research delivery across the Renal and Vascular Academic Directorates within the South Yorkshire Regional Services care group. The post supports the Research Theme Leads, works alongside investigators and clinical teams, and provides both administrative and clinical assistance to the renal and vascular research teams.

What you will do

You will help the Renal and Vascular Directorate Research Coordinator and Principal Investigators strengthen research output, carry out data entry, and actively review screening lists to identify and include suitable participants in trials. The role also involves direct patient contact to collect clinical samples and carry out measurements such as blood pressure checks and ECGs, while working closely with research and clinical teams to improve trial recruitment.

You will provide continued support to trial participants so that the research service remains well coordinated and patient-focused. In some areas, you will be expected to work independently and communicate with patients and their families about trial-related needs.

You will support a range of clinical trials from initial study setup through to archiving, following trial protocols, laboratory manuals, and all applicable regulatory requirements. Duties also include maintaining research records, entering activity data, pulling information from databases, offering clinical and administrative support, processing and sending samples, and helping with screening and recruitment.

Clinical duties may include collecting biological specimens such as blood and urine, checking blood pressure, and carrying out anthropometric assessments. You will also be responsible for keeping all trial paperwork in line with regulatory, governance, and Good Clinical Practice standards, and you will complete study-specific training for each trial.

About the teams and service

You will join an organisation that values its staff and the community it serves, with a strong standing in both the NHS and research sectors. The Trust offers good employee benefits and supports professional development, alongside policies designed to help staff balance work and personal life.

The Sheffield Kidney Institute delivers a full renal service for adults across North Trent, including acute wards, outpatient services, on-site and satellite dialysis units, and a busy renal transplantation programme. The Sheffield Vascular Institute is a specialist collaborative centre for diagnosing and treating blood vessel disorders, and it has a national reputation as one of the largest vascular units in the UK.
