Checkout Operator

Role overview

This part-time Checkout Operator position is based at Centra in Carrick-on-Shannon, Ireland. The main focus of the role is to keep the checkout area running smoothly and efficiently while delivering a high standard of customer service.

Responsibilities

• Help maintain an efficient and effective checkout department throughout the day.
• Operate a computerized till system with a barcode scanner.
• Weigh and price products, including fruit and vegetables.
• Verify customers’ ages for restricted products such as alcohol.
• Pack customers’ purchases carefully.
• Handle coupons and vouchers during transactions.
• Accept payments and ensure the till balances correctly at the end of the day.
• Step away from the till when needed to restock shelves and monitor stock levels.
• Display and merchandise the department to a consistently high standard.
• Participate in team meetings and put agreed learnings into practice.
• Reflect the Centra brand values of being Proud, Energetic, Imaginative, and Community-Based in day-to-day work.

Requirements

• Two years of retail experience is preferred.
• Ability to balance tills accurately.
• Strong verbal communication skills.
• Customer-focused approach with the ability to prioritize shopper needs.
• Good attention to detail, with an organized and flexible working style.
• Comfortable using initiative and working collaboratively in a busy, fast-paced setting.
