Role overview
The Commercial Buyer will own the sourcing and procurement activity for the Biscuits & Confectionery range. This position focuses on selecting the right products, managing suppliers, planning stock, and working closely with internal teams to keep shelves supplied, pricing competitive, and sales and margin goals on track.
The successful candidate should bring strong retail awareness, a sharp commercial mindset, and confidence in spotting products with strong market potential.
Reporting line
This role reports to the Commercial Manager.
Key responsibilities
- Spot new product opportunities and stay tuned to consumer trends within the category.
- Research and assess suppliers across global markets while ensuring quality, ethical, and sustainability expectations are met.
- Attend trade fairs and meet vendors to strengthen supplier relationships and identify emerging items.
- Keep the assortment attractive, relevant, and commercially strong.
- Handle supplier negotiations covering price, payment terms, minimum order quantities, and delivery timelines.
- Monitor vendor performance and quickly address any issues related to quality or supply.
- Develop durable, long-term relationships with key suppliers.
- Build and deliver seasonal buying plans for major trading periods such as Ramadan, Eid, Christmas, Easter, and Back to School.
- Coordinate with Marketing and Merchandising to ensure products are available on time and supported with effective promotions and in-store execution.
- Manage buying budgets while protecting profitability targets.
- Forecast demand and partner with planning and supply chain teams to maintain optimal stock levels.
- Review sales performance to identify slow-moving stock and support clearance actions when needed.
- Manage the product journey from assortment and listing through to discontinuation.
- Work with Merchandising, Marketing, E-commerce, and Store Operations on launches and campaigns.
- Track competitor pricing, assortment, and market activity to guide buying decisions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related discipline.
- At least 3 years of experience as a Buyer or Assistant Buyer in grocery retail; experience in any grocery-related category is acceptable.
- Proven ability to plan and deliver seasonal campaigns.
- Strong commercial judgement, analytical capability, and negotiation skills.
- Experience using ERP or inventory management systems.
- Clear communication skills and strong stakeholder management ability.
- Willingness to travel for supplier visits and trade shows.
- Strong interest in retail, product development, and market trends.
- Ability to adapt quickly in a changing market environment.
