Role overview
Brookfield is hiring a detail-focused Associate in Human Resources to support corporate HR activities across its platforms. Based at Brookfield Place, 181 Bay Street in Toronto, this position partners closely with Senior HR Business Partners to deliver responsive, high-quality HR support in a fast-moving, performance-led setting. The role spans the full employee journey, from onboarding through offboarding, with a strong emphasis on HR standards and compliance.

Key responsibilities
This role contributes to several core HR areas, including performance management, compensation, employee relations, recruitment support, onboarding and offboarding, immigration coordination, and HR projects. The associate will work across business and HR teams to help keep processes efficient, consistent, and aligned with company needs.
Performance management and talent development
- Help run the annual performance review cycle and keep it aligned with business goals.
- Support the identification of development needs and employee growth initiatives.
- Work with leaders on talent calibration and succession planning.
Compensation and benefits
- Assist with annual compensation review planning and analysis, including market benchmarking and internal equity checks.
- Partner with internal teams on benefits administration and employee communications.
- Coordinate maternity leave benefit discussions and explain related programs and procedures to employees.
- Initiate and monitor short-term and long-term disability claims, answer employee questions, and track leave status so HR business partners receive timely updates.
Employee relations and compliance
- Act as a contact for employee questions and concerns, offering guidance and escalating issues when needed.
- Support compliance with employment legislation and internal policies.
- Keep employee handbooks, policy documents, and other HR records current.
- Work with managers to address employee relations issues professionally, efficiently, and with risk awareness.
Talent acquisition support
- Collaborate with recruiters and hiring managers to align hiring approaches with business priorities.
- Coordinate interview scheduling, offer workflows, and candidate experience activities.
Onboarding and offboarding
- Manage new-hire onboarding to ensure a smooth start and integration into the firm.
- Support employee exits by coordinating termination steps, exit interviews, system access changes, and final paperwork.
Visas and immigration
- Partner with legal counsel and internal stakeholders on relocation matters, visa processing, renewals, and related compliance tracking.
HR operations and projects
- Contribute to and help lead cross-functional HR initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related discipline.
- 3 to 6 years of progressive HR experience; background in financial services or professional services is preferred.
- Solid understanding of HR best practices, employment law, and compensation principles.
- Ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-performance environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with professionalism and discretion.
- Comfort using MS Office; experience with Workday or a similar HRIS is an advantage.
- Advanced Excel capability, including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, dashboards, and reporting/data analysis.
